Intent
At Colebrook Infant Academy we greatly value Art as a way of stimulating and developing children’s creativity, imagination and self-expression. Art based activities provide a range of sensory experiences that give each child the ability to understand and respond to the world around them in their own unique way. Through the provision of both adult and child led learning, children are able to build upon and refine their technical skills as well as explore and experiment with line, form and colour. By creating an environment rich in positivity, praise and encouragement, we support children to become uninhibited artists who are confident in their abilities and are proud of the work they produce. The appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enriches all of our lives and we help children to develop an interest in a range of art work including their own, their peers and from a variety of artists and cultures. As a result, children can begin to understand how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Implementation
Our Art and Design curriculum has been carefully planned in accordance with the Early Years Framework and the National Curriculum to ensure all objectives are met. Through topic based activities, children are able to explore and develop a range of skills and make links with their learning in other areas of the curriculum. For each topic, relevant artistic skills and knowledge will be taught, ensuring coverage and progression.
Discrete days/themes maybe planned in order to deliver the full range of experiences.
Impact
At Colebrook Infant Academy, we ensure Art and Design activities are inclusive, with work proudly displayed in a variety of ways to show progress and achievement. Children develop the confidence and enthusiasm to use a range of skills to successfully explore and create high quality works of art. Through the enjoyment of self-expression, respect for each others' work and celebrated achievements, we lay the foundations for a lifelong love and appreciation of Art.
