Amelia Earhart
In English, the children have been learning about the incredible life of Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. They have discovered many interesting facts about her. Amelia was born in the USA and had a sister named Muriel. She bought her own bright yellow plane, which she named The Canary. Amelia was passionate about flying and even helped teach other girls how to become pilots. One fun fact the children enjoyed was that she once had to land her plane in a field full of cows!
Amelia dreamed of flying all the way around the world. Sadly, her plane crashed during the journey, and she was never able to complete her mission. Her courage and determination continue to inspire people around the world. We look forward to learning more about Amelia Earhart and creating our own non-chronological reports about her.
A Colourful Start to the Term – Exploring Claude Monet and Impressionism
We’ve had a fantastic start to the term with three immersive art days focused on the life and work of the famous artist Claude Monet. The children enjoyed learning about Monet and his unique style of painting known as Impressionism.
We explored a wide range of colour theory and painting techniques, including:
Identifying primary and secondary colours
Understanding how colours are arranged on a colour wheel
Exploring warm and cool colours, and how artists use them to create mood
Learning how to mix tones and tints using paint
Experimenting with different painting techniques and textures
Observing how paint changes when mixed with water
The children had a wonderful time getting creative, especially when mixing their own colours and experimenting with effects.
Take a look below to see some of their brilliant artwork!
