For the first three days of term we had an Art focus.
We started on day 1 by talking about painting and how we hold a brush and apply paint in a careful manner to try and stay within the lines of our designs. Next we talked about colour; in particular about the three primary colours which can be mixed to make other colours. This new knowledge was put into practise as we drew shapes and painted each of them a different primary colour.
On day 2 we talked about the artist Piet Mondrian and how he used primary colours to create abstract artwork. We began creating our own artwork inspired by Mondrian by drawing straight lines using a ruler and pencil, then carefully painted over them with black paint.
On day 3 we completed our works of art by painting 3 sections of our pictures with primary colours. Some children also independently drew Mondrian inspired artwork with rulers and pencil crayons during child- initiated learning.
