Young Carers
A young carer is someone aged 25 and under who cares for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without extra support. Our Young Carers in school live with family members who need extra support which sometimes means they, as Young Carers, need support themselves.
Our Young Carers meet regularly with Mrs Shakespeare to play games, chat, bake cakes, tidy up the raised beds or simply to play with Mavis. They chat about their week and what they have enjoyed and it's good for them to know they are not alone.
Clay Time
The Young Carers enjoyed making fun things from baking clay. Mavis enjoyed watching them for a time, and then decided on a little snooze...
Playing Pairs
Mrs Shakespeare discovered that our Young Carers had never played the game of Pairs. So today, she got out her cards and taught everyone how to play - with some help from Mavis, our learning dog. It was a session of fun and giggles and a little bit of friendly competition!
